Welcome to East Bay Custom Fly Rods, I am Dave Loren, rod builder and proud owner. I bring 15 years of custom rod building for both fresh and saltwater species and over 8 years as a saltwater fishing guide. I’m located on the east bay side of Narraganset Bay in Warren, Rhode Island. Each fly rod is custom built for a fly fisher by a fly fisherman.

My goal is to provide professional and personal service which will help guide you to the proper rod that will fish the way you do and provide many years of angling pleasure. As much as I enjoy casting a bamboo rod, I have decided to concentrate on graphite rods and the nuances that make them a valuable fishing tool. If you need help deciding on rod length, line weight, and special components I will be happy to assist. I encourage you to have as much input into your rod as you would like.

Rod building: All rods are built from the reel seat to tip top by hand, by me. Rods are built for the individual based on our discussions and agreement on rod length, line weight, components, thread colors, and any specialty items needed. These are not cookie-cutter rods where one size fits all
Grips: hand turned and hand glued cork in popular configurations. Combinations of cork and filler materials for a special effect and something I am especially proud of, my birch bark grips.
Reel seats: A chance to really personalize your rod with wood inserts and many choices of reel seat materials.
Wraps: Wraps provide the buyer with some personal identity, a combination of colors, mid wraps, fancy wraps.
Construction time: the average rod will take approximately two weeks. Special order of reel seats or the birch bark grips will take a little longer.
Cost: Every rod has it’s own uniqueness to it’s owner so every rod will not be priced the same. Once all final decisions are made on blank, reel seat, grip, components and thread colors and design, will final cost be decided. All orders require a 50% deposit for construction to begin. Balance to be paid prior to shipping.

My goal: Supply a stress free consult that will provide you with the best fly casting tool I can make. Let’s face it we fish to enjoy ourselves and relax, so why not make the experience of having a custom built fly rod stress free.
Feel free to look at photos as they will change from time to time or contact me if your curiosity gets the best of you. Remember it does not cost anything to ask.
